Rodline bodies enjoy a
reputation of being the highest quality hot rod bodies manufactured in
Europe. Even before the internal bracing is added they are rigid and yet
astonishingly light. A roadster body for instance weighs less than 100Kg
including it's trunk lid and doors! The bodies are molded in aircraft gray
and feature integral firewalls and floors. The roadsters feature integral
dashboards for even greater rigidity.
The doors and trunk lids are not attached to the bodies.
It is very important that the internal framing and then the hanging of the
doors and trunk lid take place with the body firmly attached to the body's
own chassis. This will ensure that the body gaps are consistent and remain
so.
Like any other fiberglass body, Rodline bodies require
internal strengthening in steel or wood. Although we can complete this
task for our customers, there are two reasons why we generally leave this
task to our customers. Firstly, it makes our bodies more affordable for
you and secondly, everyone has their own ideas of how he or she wants to
build their own hot rod. A description of how to steel-out a fiberglass
body can be found in the August and September 2007 editions of
"Custom Car".
Wescott
is one of the largest fiberglass body manufactures in the States. Wescott
bodies feature internal
framing and all doors hung straight from the factory. Their quality is
without doubt excellent, however you do pay $10.600 plus shipping and VAT
for the roadster and $19.500 plus shipping and VAT for the 3-Window coupe.
We like to think our customers would rather save the money for something
else. After all framing out a body is done in a week or so and all you
need is a bit of mild steel and a few basic tools.
Now before you start thinking, "surely a steel body
is much stronger?", just take a look at these two pictures of an
original steel 1932 roadster below. As you can see, Henry's finest was
pathetically under engineered. Well what can you expect, $500 wasn't much
money even then. You can fabricate a much stronger and safer internal
structure than was possible in the factory. A rusty original body like
this one will cost you over $30,000 if you can find one. Ring us up and
order your body now and you could be taking your Rodline 32 roadster body
home in less than 8 weeks for as little as £1675.
